WHAT IS MEDIATION?

Mediation is a tool used to manage conflict, usually between two parties who on their own have not successfully managed to resolve the issue at hand. The mediator uses techniques to facilitate dialogue between the parties with the goal that the parties themselves will come up with their own solutions and decisions about the conflict. Thus, producing engagement and commitment between them.

WHEN IS MEDIATION USED?

There are countless situations whereby one may seek a mediator; at work this may be to resolve a conflict between your company and clients, suppliers, or between colleagues. Alternatively, in your personal life you may also look to find a mediator to resolve a conflict between you and your partner, family members or friends.  The process is voluntary, confidential and impartial and these very factors are essential to contributing to a possible resolution.

From experience, I have found that through mediation, one is able to offer a caring way of approaching conflict, which could otherwise be a more painful and unpleasant experience, both in one’s private life as well professionally. I choose to pursue this kind vocation having seen the tremendous positive impact that mediation can have.

HOW CAN I HELP YOU WITH YOUR CONFLICT?

As a mediator, I act as a neutral third party and will facilitate rather than direct the process.  I will “facilitate” by managing the interaction between the parties and opening the lines of communication and negotiation.   I do not take sides with either of the parties, this is not expected in a mediation process.
